The problem I found with secularised Moslems is ...

... they seem to want very much to secularise Christendom too.

Someone who does not want that says:

Is Sarah Silverman plain stupid?

She proposes: sell the Vatican, feed the world - is she stupid?

Supposing someone - for whatever reason - bought the Vatican for five billion dollars or whatever she values it with ... well, first off: what would the reason be? And who would the buyer be?

Next question: what would happen when the five billion dollars were up?

Back when the temple stood there - yes, I suppose Silverman is a Jewish name - and God through the prophets told Judah to stop all sacrifices as long as there were hungry widows around: never once did He tell the priests to sell the temple to feed the poor.

The temple was there for God. The Church is there for same God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, in particular for God the Son made Man and making himself Eucharist (which is not exactly what Jews have been believing in the last 2000 years, more like very rebellious denial).

Now, He told Judas (who had complained about St Mary Magdalen's precious oil) and the Apostles: ye can be kind to the poor whenever ye like, for the poor ye have always among you; but me ye have not always among you.

And that is what would happen, if the Pope sold the Vatican.

The poor would get a few hamburgher meals per day and person next few years, Mc Donalds would make big money, so would the air companies or leasing companies (who own most of the airplanes nowadays) that transported it, local agriculture would be neglected, and when money was up, they would be poorer still.

Sarah Silverman would still have the poor in her living room, when TV was on. Unless journalistic ethos had changed in the meantime. What would her next bid be? Tell the Saudi royal family they would qualify as El Mahdi if they sold Mecca to ... whoever would buy it for whatever reason?

But long before the money was up, the reason for buying the Vatican would have become apparent: any buyer or set of buyers that rich would be Jewish, of the Anti-Christian or Anti-Catholic fringe, eager to chase Christ in the Eucharist out of ... not just the Vatican, but the World.

If Sarah Silverman wants to pose as both honest and intelligent, that does happen to some Jews too, she might want to take certain things back. Like what she said in that video. She might also try to clean her conscience about starving people by taking a cue from Our Lord, like doing good to them as often as she feels like. If, doing so, she still feels half naked, emaciated black people waiting for food is not really what she likes in her living room, she might just turn off the TV.

Oh, before I sign, I will just take this a bit further: do you know how the Vatican got a Vatican bank? No, that was before you were born, right, and "history is bunk" as Ford said. I do not happen to think history is bunk, and I do happen to know it. I will tell, just in case you thought I was being paranoid about "the buyer" you thought the Vatican wanted.

The Vatican sold the Papal States to Italy. Ok, it was not like a decision "what a good idea to sell the states to Italy, so I have less administration to do". It was more like: "Italy has already taken the Papal states, except the Vatican, and now wants to pay for them, and if Pope buys, he no longer ecommunicates King of Italy for taking Papal states, and if he continues to excommunicate King of Italy, Mussolini might turn mean". It was not a heroic decision. But one thing that Vatican bank HAS been doing since is precisely feeding poor people.

Speaking of that occasion when Italy took Papal states from "Vatican", it was in 1870, nearly 60 years before Pope Pius XI sold most of what was robbed, and got back only national sovereignty for ... Vatican State.

And, to the point: Papal States included Rome, and Rome included a Church called St Mary and All Hallows. The building had started as a Pagan temple, Pantheon. Christians answered: more like Pandemonium. One Pope did something about it. He exorcised the Demons. He did away with Pagan statues. He hallowed a Church, to the Triune God as the one we worship with adoration, and to Mary and All Saints as ones we honour as living temples of God. A gifted architect, Bernini, gave it two turrets. The inauguration of that Church was November 1st.

After sacking Rome, Italy gave Rome new rulers, including a mayor, of same extraction as I suppose Sarah Silverman to be. He decided the turrets must go. He or Italy decided All Hallows should again be what it was before that earlier Pope: All Hell, a k a Pantheon in Pagan language. The "gods" that dwell therein are the corpses of bad people, including the King who took Rome (except Vatican) from Papacy.

About that time, maybe a bit earlier, philologists (I and Tolkien are some of them, but in disagreement with that thesis) started saying that November 1st was a Pagan festival anyway. And about a Century later there is such a thing as Helloween on the cultural market.

So, yes, people who attack Papacy sometimes further Satanic schemes. The synagogue of Hannas and Kaiaphas (which stamped both Judas and Jesus as magicians, but preferred Judas between the two) is not excepted. In US, in your State, Christians maybe celebrated Corpus Christi on Thursday, as should be. In France, the Feast is celebrated "following Sunday" i e today. Thanks to whom? To the Vatican? No, but to people who attack it like Sarah Silverman did in that video.

PS: a friend of mine suggested that you, being a comedian, might simply be unfamiliar with the facts.

Though he is not Catholic - last time I checked he was Calvinist - he quoted, about "riches of the Church", Owen Chadwick's "The Reformation", as saying:

The income of the Republic of Venice was about a million ducats. Even at the best, the Pope's income failed to attain half a million, yet he must bear political, spiritual and sometimes military responsibilities far beyond those of Venice.

"Pourquoi?"

Is Walter Kasper revisionist? (quote, comment)

Here is my quote from a speech by that man:

As everybody knows the history of Jewish–Christian relations is complex and difficult, going back to the beginnings of the Church in the first century AD. The early Christian community in Jerusalem still took part in the prayers in the Temple and was highly esteemed; in fact, the apostle Paul in his missionary trips always went first to the synagogues and only after to the pagans. But the rift between Jews and Christians and the schism between Jews and the one Church of Jews and Gentiles had already arisen in the first century, especially after the destruction of the second Temple by the Romans in the year 70. This history has also seen positive times, such as when bishops took Jews under their protection against pogroms by mobs, but there have been dark times that have been especially imprinted upon the collective Jewish consciousness.

Here is my immediate source: TimesOnline, May 25 2010

Here is my highlight:

The early Christian community in Jerusalem still took part in the prayers in the Temple and was highly esteemed; in fact, the apostle Paul in his missionary trips always went first to the synagogues and only after to the pagans.

Oh, Kasper, that was so much for his personal comfort, was it? He went there because it was there he was highly esteemed, was it? He had never like been higher esteemed by them before, like when running about on their behalf persecuting the Church, or so? On Pentecost Monday the mass said by a priest of the FSSPX to us who made the pilgrimage from Chartres included a sermon, where he contrasted "revisionnismes et théories" as against " l'amour de la vérité". The latter phrase, just in case some reader should be lousy in French, meaning: love for truth.

OK, if imitation is an act of high esteem, maybe it was sometimes in high esteem that some Jews and Cohanim held the Christians: since the obligation to study the Law, which was not in the law, may well have been Joshua Ben Gamla's imitation of Christians learning Apostles Creed, Pater, Commandments by heart or being tested on contents in Didaché tôn dodeka apostolon. And since their new rite of Yôm Kippur no longer as the old, lawful rite symbolises the Crucifixion of Our Lord, but its fruit, baptism. Unless of course the new rite was already instituted during Babylonic Captivity, in which case it was a prophetic figure of baptism. But apart from "sincerest falttery being imitation" I do not see in general that Christians were held in "high esteem" by their persecutors.

I would probably like to read your revised version of the Acts just for fun, but for purposes of religious instruction, I prefer the old one. In which Pentecost day really assembled the people of Israel from all over the earth, as foretold in the Prophecy Of Jeremias, Chapter 23:

7 Therefore behold the days to come, saith the Lord, and they shall say no more: The Lord liveth, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt: 8 But the Lord liveth, who hath brought out, and brought hither the seed of the house of Israel from the land of the north, and out of all the lands, to which I had cast them forth: and they shall dwell in their own land.

But in which also the assembled (though totally international) were a minority of the population which before that had been calling itself Church of Israel. As those themselves, a thousand years before, had been one when opposed to the Ten Tribes.

PS: the actual NEWS STORY (link, see above) that Kasper was talking about was opening of Vatican archives for the reign of Pope Pius XII in connection with his beatification and impending canonization. He correctly noted, that Pius XII, as proven from the time when he was Secretary of State to Pope Pius XI by no means favoured Hitler's ideology. Though he alluded to Mit brennender Sorge (<-- click link) as if racialism were the only or main secularism it condemned, which is by no means true if you take alternative "only" and is a bit of a stretch if you take it as "main secularism condemned in that encyclical".

Here is the actual passage:

8. Whoever exalts race, or the people, or the State, or a particular form of State, or the depositories of power, or any other fundamental value of the human community -- however necessary and honorable be their function in worldly things -- whoever raises these notions above their standard value and divinizes them to an idolatrous level, distorts and perverts an order of the world planned and created by God; he is far from the true faith in God and from the concept of life which that faith upholds.

  • la zéro ou la cifre 0 n'est pas un nombre, mais un signe échangeable avec les nombres signifiant d'abord d'une côté que le signe numéral à gauche est multiplié de dix pour chaque zéro comme si suivi de tant de nombres et de l'autre côté que la position où elle se place est vide;
  • les nombres négatifs sont abrégés d'autre chose, par exemple le dégré un-à-gauche ou un-en-bas (tandis que un-à-droite ou un-en-haut seront marqués comme nombres positifs ou normaux) dans un système de coordonnés, dans lequel en plus la ligne ou le dégré du milieu sera soit O=Origo, soit 0=zéro;
    • 3 par rapport à 6
    • six pouces par rapport au pied
    • un pied par rapport à deux pieds
    • et ainsi de suite ...

  • 3,1416... et 1,414... sont des proportions entre longueurs incommensurables, d'où l'impossibilité de les exprimer en des simples fractions, au contraire leur valeur est toujours compris entre deux fractions, qu'il vaut bien approcher mais qui ne coincideront jamais avec la proportion entre le diamètre et la périphérie d'un cercle ou la côté et la diagonale d'un carré (l'expression en décimales donne par exemple 31.416/10.000 comme valeur excessive et 1414/1000 comme valeur inadéquate, tandis que les valeurs inadéquates et excessives 31.415/10.000 et 1415/1000 seraient plus éloignées);

I have followers on some blogs: musicalia, deretour, Philologica, Morphologia Latina and Gm b1 lou, of late also on Creation vs Evolution all of which are functional in English.

If some of you got on to more blogs that might interest you, there might be some debates in comment sections.

Some bullshit I heard this morning, and belated answers

A fan of the Knights Templar was verbally rigmaroling me half an hour ago. He won't take offence at the word bullshit, except maybe for me applying it to his stands, so I hope you won't either. Not all of the answers were belated. Not sure of getting all sub-debates in right order, though.

The Templars were put to the stake for two reasons: allegations of sodomy, and, more importantly, since confirmed by trials without torture in Spain (there was no torture in Spain back then): stepping on a cross during initiation.

Spain was/is not a Catholic country.

It was back then.

You just answered yourself.

Belatedly, here: Back then Burgos and Girona were solidly Catholic, whereas Seville and Granada were in Moorish hands.

There were trials in Spain, the sacrilege was confirmed without torture.

Templars were soldiers. Only a soldier can judge a soldier, if you have never served, you do not know what it is like, you cannot judge.

Belatedly, here: Thank God St Ambrose did not know that but excommunicated Emperor Theodosius (that was a soldier for you) for an act of cruelty.

The Templars were not on trial for cruelty in battles, but for sodomy and stepping on a cross.

Well, only the Catholic Church is both a Church and a Bank? Funny isn't it?

The Vatican Bank did not exist until Pope Pius XI accepted damage payments from Mussolini (belatedly, here:) for the robbery on the Papal States in second half of XIXth C.

The Catholic Church was, he claimed, envious because the Templars were smart businessmen.

I answered, if some kinds of smart business deals are not done by Catholics (or were not back then) it is because they are immoral. Like lending someone 100 dollars and getting 110 dollars back next year.

Not a bad deal at all.

Nor a moral one.

Wait, if I lend someone 100 bucks for a year, I have to do without that money during the time.

If you get 100 dollars back a year later, it means you have them a year later. Only other way you could have had them a year later was by not using them during the year.

But the lender does a service, right? He could get paid for the service.

Belatedly, here: as he is by the giving back.

And the Templars thought a stable financing was a good idea, but maybe if people have money they go less to Church.

Some people do indeed get a lot of money and then into bad habits, and then they do not go to Church because they live in bad habits.

You know that every revolution was started because of the Church?

Belatedly, here, since he did not let me get through: Actually quite a few were started by peoples hating the Church.

Some Anti-Catholic diatribe from him:

Vatican is the most corrupt institution ... like Jerusalem was lost because the Pope Ordered the Templars to raid peaceful caravans.

Rubbish, the Pope ordered to fight against Moslem troops.

There were no Moslem troops in Jerusalem during the massacre.

It was neither order by the Pope nor by Geoffroy de Bouillon, it was a spontaneous act of madness.

Belatedly, here: Crusaders and divers orders have not been famous for obedience to Papal directives. Pope John XXII made a peace with Lithuanian Grand Duke Gedimynas, in which the Archbishop of Riga was involved too. Teutonic order bribed his Samogitian subjects to threaten rebellion if he became a Christian, they also sacked Riga. Pope Innocent III specifically forbade Crusaders (IVth Crusade) to get involved in Doge of Venice's vendetta with Byzance, and guess what they did?

... or like Pope forbidding the condom in South America where everyone has AIDS ...

Because it is immoral.

Who makes morality? A man who says so?

God.

The Pope is not God!

No, but have you read Genesis what God did about Onan?

Here he got off about Genesis being "the fifth book of Judaism" and later Torah "not being a book but a scroll" - which is irrelevant. And scrolls not being books is overmore incorrect: books were scrolls before they got the codex form.

He must have known very well that the moral of God killing Onan is the same as Church forbidding interrupted intercourse and a close parallel, namely use of condom.

But, though it is a lie to say S. America has a majority of AIDS patients and only a minority of no contamination, that is of little purpose. When both man and woman of a couple already have the virus, the condom mainly serves stopping them from having children, not saving them from AIDS. So that is no answer against the Pope.

I never got to answer what he said about covering up sexual abuse, but no, the Vatican/Catholic clergy is not the chief culprit in todays world. Schools and boy scouts are worse.

... BBL, maybe (that was not all, sad to say)

PS, same evening:

the guy had a T-shirt with a scull and did some homage to masonry.

Same day's evening, I was abother time again asked to explain why I left Malmö and was told to remain "free in conscience": I wonder if he included the freedom to be a Trad Cath? Masons often do not. They do not count that as free.
