So Right and So Wrong

Bishop Williamson is so right about the lack of children being the suicide of our peoples.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf3T387_E20

He is only so singularly wrong about the motives. It is not hedonism as such that bars from getting children, but stingyness. In the sins of "thy sister Sodom" the scale does not go directly from "satiety of bread" - i e hedonism as per gluttony - to "abomination before" the Lord - i e voluntarily barren sex. Between them come stinginess and even before the first and between stinginess and abomination there is pride. Now, stinginess and pride taken together has a modern nickname: "being responsible".

Responsibility of that sort whispers the despairing news - the bad and untrue news - that fulness of bread cannot be kept if you give some to strangers. It also whispers the despairing prospect of many children impoverishing the lavish lifestyle. Hedonism without that responsibility - and without being exposed to it by "responsible people" - is not in and of itself as likely to tempt either to individual or to familial tribal suicide.

Chesterton noted a line in a poet who wrote "and eat their pot of honey on the grave". Now, sitting on one's grave may be a real act of sobriety like St John digging his grave and lying down in it on the day Our Lord told him so. And eating one's pot of honey may be a real act of hedonism. But usually they go separate ways, either separate individuals or separate periods of same individual life. But a certain modern culture wants one to look into grim realities (like not being able to bask on the beach next year if you have a baby, but that is not a reality, that is only a possibility for the future, and not even a likely one if you live in a caravan or close to the beach) while enjoying sweetnesses (like basking on a beach).

In and of itself, basking on a beach is not contrary to fertility, it is being responsible - "responsible" Sodom style - that gets some looking for a place where to buy a very sodomite object now made from a material also found in balloons.

Like, on another note, in the film Dead Poet's Society, it was not the individual hedonism of the son, encouraged by the teacher played by Robin Williams, it was the responsability of the father that provoked the son to suicide. A kind of responsability very much discouraged by St Paul in Ephesians - "and ye parents, provoke not your children to wrath ..." - there is a parallel passage which adds "...that they may not fall into despair" - probably because many Christians in Ephesus were still of Jewish origin and Jews were starting rough-shod over patriarchal parenting they are still as known for as the Japanese - another people with high suicide rates.

OK, Sweden, Finland, Norway have high such too, but partly the state is now doing there what the families are doing some other places, partly also winter above the Polar Circle deprives the human organism of light: actually in the North of my country social security is paying people for sitting two hours per week in rooms with white walls, coming in white clothes and with many bright lamps - to save them from organic temptations to despair. But when it comes to moral temptations to despair and - collective or individual - suicide, a certain kind of responsability is added to hedonism before it becomes deadly.

And with prolonged practical school compulsion it has become much deadlier to be in school now, see Columbine High School - the moral condition of Cassie a few months earlier, before her conversion, tells the same story, by the way.

In the same essay Chesterton deplored the moral condition of people preferring cinema to children. But cinema, like reading, is not a question of hedonism. In some ways it is a question of vicarious suffering - of taking on the shrapnel and dig-out damp and cold in the person of John Grant when you cannot take it in your own flesh. A fake religion, not hedonism.

"You-Cat"? No-Cat-But-A-Weasel

I am just reading an appeal to recall the You-Cat (Youth Catechism) being distributed in Madrid. I am thus quoting through its quotes:

Question 65 of YOUCAT explains:

There is no man on earth who is not descended from a union of a mother and father. Therefore it is a painful experience for many homosexually oriented people that they do not feel erotically attracted to the opposite sex and necessarily miss out on the physical fruitfulness of the union between man and woman according to human nature and the divine order of creation. Nevertheless, God often leads souls to himself along unusual paths: A lack, a loss, or a wound—if accepted and affirmed—can become a springboard for throwing oneself into the arms of God…

Very obviously - I find it obvious unlike those who wrote petition - it is a question of a mental attraction to the same sex, and not of acts of sodomy or even internal acts of desire of sodomy. However, I have my own axe to grind with that attitude.

Therefore it is a painful experience for many homosexually oriented people that they do not feel erotically attracted to the opposite sex and necessarily miss out on the physical fruitfulness of the union between man and woman according to human nature and the divine order of creation.

What idiotic nonsense. It is not by necessity, but by preferring their attractions to fertility and marriage that they - often but not always - miss out on the physical fruitfulness. There are more reasons than one - like homosexuality being one, but fatigue and therefore "not-feeling-sexy" another or oversexedness and therefore feeling attracted to every pretty unmarried person of opposite sex a third and disappointments from previous rejected proposals a fourth - of not feeling constantly and exclusively very sexually attracted to any one particular person of the opposite sex. Nevertheless, as the Church never said that feeling on top of your form and being very attracted to your wife was a condition for staying validly married or for marrying at all, she never said that homosexual orientation was an obstacle to marriage.

Except of course if a man cannot at all erect in presence of a woman but not through physical erectile dysfunction. But that would usually have been seen as "homosexual orientation" but as a spell or other demonic influence. Actually, what St Paul writing to the Romans said about it is that preference for unnatural intercourse came about among Pagans as a punisment for idolatry. Even without the incapacity for intercourse with a wife. So much more that such incapacity must come from the demon, where it exists (if it exists at all). Perhaps Jews (and some other machoist cultures too) would have counted that as an orientation, or they may have higher demands on purely physical attraction to a woman on part of a man before he can be allowed to marry her. They are also more open to slander about the possible sodomitic inclinations of unmarried persons than the Church.

But to the mind of the Church, what is considered "homosexual orientation" is not necessarily an obstacle to marriage. Any more than fatigue, or insecurity about what person in opposite sex one loves most, or feeling sure to get rejected.

Nevertheless, God often leads souls to himself along unusual paths: A lack, a loss, or a wound—if accepted and affirmed—can become a springboard for throwing oneself into the arms of God…

Here is poison. Vile poison. How many priests have heard some rumour (oh, not from macho blokes on the building block, whom they would not listen to but like from a rabbi or a psychologist or a policeman or a teacher or other representative for an altoogether too judaised elite culture) that someone is a homosexual, when in fact he is not, when in fact he wants very much to marry, and how many of them have dissuaded girl after girl from marrying that man, and how many have then persuaded themselves that they are only helping God to lead a soul to himself along unusual paths? I do not contest the theological fact that God can do that, I am saying this context is the wrongest possible place to bring this up time after time and even in a catechism. And such killers of souls are sure in their hearts they are being scientific and doing the right thing by a person by the lights of scientific truth.

More will come on "scientific truth" or supposed such. Suffice it to say:

- not being very attracted to one's wife happens for other reasons than homosexuality and in most marriages at times
- it neither precludes or necessarily ruins marriage, nor makes it unfertile
- if a homosexual orientation makes a man feel he would do wrong to marry someone without telling her, let him tell her and say how she feels about it. After all, there are lesbians who have the same trouble with men.

Question du progrès.
Question du suicide: sans oublier la psychiatrie.
Question de la franc-maçonnerie. Pétain avait quelque bonnes idées, quand même.

Question du progrès.

Question du suicide: sans oublier la psychiatrie.

drbo:

Job 2, 9 And his wife said to him: Dost thou still continue in thy simplicity? bless God and die. 10 And he said to her: Thou hast; spoken like one of the foolish women: if we have received good things at the hand of God, why should we not receive evil? In all these things Job did not sin with his lips.

Vulgata:

drbo:

III Kings, 19, 3-5 Then Elias was afraid, and rising up he went whithersoever he had a mind: and he came to Bersabee of Juda, and left his servant there, And he went forward, one day's journey into the desert. And when he was there, and sat under a juniper tree, he requested for his soul that he might die, and said: It is enough for me, Lord, take away my soul: for I am no better than my fathers. And he cast himself down, and slept in the shadow of the juniper tree: and behold an angel of the Lord touched him, and said to him: Arise and eat.

comment:

[4] "That he might die"... Elias requested to die, not out of impatience or pusillanimity, but out of zeal against sin; and that he might no longer be witness of the miseries of his people; and the war they were waging against God and his servants. See ver. 10.

Vulgata:

drbo:

8-10 And he arose, and ate, and drank, and walked in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, unto the mount of God, Horeb. And when he was come thither, he abode in a cave: and behold the word of the Lord came unto him, and he said to him: What dost thou here, Elias? And he answered: With zeal have I been zealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant: they have thrown down thy altars, they have slain thy prophets with the sword, and I alone am left, and they seek my life to take it away.

comment:

[8] "In the strength of that food"... This bread, with which Elias was fed in the wilderness, was a figure of the bread of life which we receive in the blessed sacrament; by the strength of which we are to be supported in our journey through the wilderness of this world till we come to the true mountain of God, and his vision in a happy eternity.

[10] "I alone am left"... Viz., of the prophets in the kingdom of Israel, or of the ten tribes; for in the kingdom of Juda religion was at that time in a very flourishing condition under the kings Asa and Josaphat. And even in Israel there remained several prophets, though not then known to Elias. See chap. 20. 13, 28, 35.

Vulgata:

Question de la franc-maçonnerie.

It seems Greens are often Homo-liberal ... I am not

"The good archbishop has forgotten the ninth commandment, which is `thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbour'," said Brown in comments published by the Sydney Morning Herald. "He's lost the ethic of the golden rule and the Greens have kept it. The Greens are much closer to mainstream Christian thinking than Cardinal Pell. That's why he's not standing for election and I am."

He called Pell's position in favor of Catholic Church teaching on homosexuality "discriminatory and biased," and claimed that "The majority of Catholics support equality in marriage (as do) the majority of Christians in Australia."

Source.

It would discriminate against individuals thought by psychologists to be homosexuals if Church excludes them from marriage as in one man one woman. To the definition of marriage it does not matter whether that one man and that one woman are horniest on each other or on some others, as long as they intend to be faithful to each other.

Getting laid is not just about getting as horny as possible, it is also and foremost about getting less horny. And as such getting laid in a marital way may not get the homosexually oriented maximum satisfaction, but it would aid some against getting hotter and hotter on their typical temptations (I have said this before, and this is not because these temptations are mine: I am a Swede, my country-man Åke Green went to prison for "discriminating against homosexuals", and I have therefore a legal interest in stating I am not discriminating against them).

So, excluding people from marriage, as Christianity defines this throughout 2000 years, is not discriminatory. As for sodomy, as for lesbian sex, we must discriminate against that in our lives and in public, whether this is "illegal" or not. We discriminate quite as much against those behaviours in heterosexual people.

So that Green Politician, and that Court in Ca, are wrong about tradition discriminating against people due to sexual "orientation", it only discriminates against some kinds of acts and relations, regardless of "orientation" of people involved.

L'orgueil: "we want to make the best ice cream in the world".

Ça m'a duré, quand même.

Most people have seen a picture called "Bubbles," which is used for the advertisement of a celebrated soap, a small cake of which is introduced into the pictorial design. And anybody with an instinct for design (the caricaturist of the Daily Herald, for instance), will guess that it was not originally a part of the design. He will see that the cake of soap destroys the picture as a picture; as much as if the cake of soap had been used to Scrub off the paint. Small as it is, it breaks and confuses the whole balance of objects in the composition. I offer no judgment here upon Millais's action in the matter; in fact, I do not know what it was. The important point for me at the moment is that the picture was not painted for the soap, but the soap added to the picture.

The Utopia of Usurers (e-text on - abridged URL -http://o-x.fr/juxd), I Art & Advertisement

Some bullshit I heard this morning, and belated answers

A fan of the Knights Templar was verbally rigmaroling me half an hour ago. He won't take offence at the word bullshit, except maybe for me applying it to his stands, so I hope you won't either. Not all of the answers were belated. Not sure of getting all sub-debates in right order, though.

The Templars were put to the stake for two reasons: allegations of sodomy, and, more importantly, since confirmed by trials without torture in Spain (there was no torture in Spain back then): stepping on a cross during initiation.

Spain was/is not a Catholic country.

It was back then.

You just answered yourself.

Belatedly, here: Back then Burgos and Girona were solidly Catholic, whereas Seville and Granada were in Moorish hands.

There were trials in Spain, the sacrilege was confirmed without torture.

Templars were soldiers. Only a soldier can judge a soldier, if you have never served, you do not know what it is like, you cannot judge.

Belatedly, here: Thank God St Ambrose did not know that but excommunicated Emperor Theodosius (that was a soldier for you) for an act of cruelty.

The Templars were not on trial for cruelty in battles, but for sodomy and stepping on a cross.

Well, only the Catholic Church is both a Church and a Bank? Funny isn't it?

The Vatican Bank did not exist until Pope Pius XI accepted damage payments from Mussolini (belatedly, here:) for the robbery on the Papal States in second half of XIXth C.

The Catholic Church was, he claimed, envious because the Templars were smart businessmen.

I answered, if some kinds of smart business deals are not done by Catholics (or were not back then) it is because they are immoral. Like lending someone 100 dollars and getting 110 dollars back next year.

Not a bad deal at all.

Nor a moral one.

Wait, if I lend someone 100 bucks for a year, I have to do without that money during the time.

If you get 100 dollars back a year later, it means you have them a year later. Only other way you could have had them a year later was by not using them during the year.

But the lender does a service, right? He could get paid for the service.

Belatedly, here: as he is by the giving back.

And the Templars thought a stable financing was a good idea, but maybe if people have money they go less to Church.

Some people do indeed get a lot of money and then into bad habits, and then they do not go to Church because they live in bad habits.

You know that every revolution was started because of the Church?

Belatedly, here, since he did not let me get through: Actually quite a few were started by peoples hating the Church.

Some Anti-Catholic diatribe from him:

Vatican is the most corrupt institution ... like Jerusalem was lost because the Pope Ordered the Templars to raid peaceful caravans.

Rubbish, the Pope ordered to fight against Moslem troops.

There were no Moslem troops in Jerusalem during the massacre.

It was neither order by the Pope nor by Geoffroy de Bouillon, it was a spontaneous act of madness.

Belatedly, here: Crusaders and divers orders have not been famous for obedience to Papal directives. Pope John XXII made a peace with Lithuanian Grand Duke Gedimynas, in which the Archbishop of Riga was involved too. Teutonic order bribed his Samogitian subjects to threaten rebellion if he became a Christian, they also sacked Riga. Pope Innocent III specifically forbade Crusaders (IVth Crusade) to get involved in Doge of Venice's vendetta with Byzance, and guess what they did?

... or like Pope forbidding the condom in South America where everyone has AIDS ...

Because it is immoral.

Who makes morality? A man who says so?

God.

The Pope is not God!

No, but have you read Genesis what God did about Onan?

Here he got off about Genesis being "the fifth book of Judaism" and later Torah "not being a book but a scroll" - which is irrelevant. And scrolls not being books is overmore incorrect: books were scrolls before they got the codex form.

He must have known very well that the moral of God killing Onan is the same as Church forbidding interrupted intercourse and a close parallel, namely use of condom.

But, though it is a lie to say S. America has a majority of AIDS patients and only a minority of no contamination, that is of little purpose. When both man and woman of a couple already have the virus, the condom mainly serves stopping them from having children, not saving them from AIDS. So that is no answer against the Pope.

I never got to answer what he said about covering up sexual abuse, but no, the Vatican/Catholic clergy is not the chief culprit in todays world. Schools and boy scouts are worse.

... BBL, maybe (that was not all, sad to say)

PS, same evening:

the guy had a T-shirt with a scull and did some homage to masonry.

Same day's evening, I was abother time again asked to explain why I left Malmö and was told to remain "free in conscience": I wonder if he included the freedom to be a Trad Cath? Masons often do not. They do not count that as free.

That is not true, signor laicista!

Basically: priests demand only their own liberties, denying the rest our liberties.

Example 1: priests want the liberty to excommunicate girls chosing abortion when pregnant from incest with twins at age ten, but do not want "our" liberties to abort when needed.

Example 2: priests denounce homosexual marriage and child adoptions.

Countercase: it was the "laicisti" that raised marital age in Romagna from 12 to 18 for girls.

Which - in 1902 - made a certain Alessandro Serenelli too impatient to get an excuse for a dispensation. Which made him make a certain Maria Goretti an indecent proposal. Which she refused, was killed for, and forgave him for. So, the laicisti made her a martyr, and they made Alessandro a penitent, but one can hardly claim they gave the couple the liberty that Catholic clergy ruling Romagna had given some thirty-two years before.

About example 1: nobody excommunicated the girl in Brazil. One bishop notified that abortion meant automatic excommunication. The real problem is that the mother and the doctors who pressurised the girl to make an abortion instead of taking a not too big risk to make a cesarian later, saving three lives instead of one, were not excommunicated.

The real threat to her freedom was the two doctors.

About example 2: homosexual couples that adopt in countries that allow the practise are typically well off. The losers are real parents, who are stamped as inadequate and lose their own freedom with that of their children to have them grow up in heterosexual surroundings.

Sometimes because they are poor. Sometimes because they are stamped as alcoholics. Sometimes because they are stamped as violent or as psychically unstable.

Psychiatrists include a big percentage of homosexuals. They are a bit too willing to do service to such couples by stamping real parental couples as unfit.
