"Similar divisions emerged earlier this week when Patriarch Alexy II of the Russian Orthodox Church, appearing before the assembly, described homosexuality as an "illness" and likened it to kleptomania."

The Christian doctrine is not that homosexuality and kleptomania exist as diseases, but that Sodomy, sin of Onan, solitary sin against chastity et c and Robbery, burglary, pocket-picking et c exist as sins.

Saying that this or that man is culpable because he has picket a pocket or wanked, because he has robbed or sodomised someone, is Christian. Saying he is culpable, but couldn't help it, since his action was predestined, is calvinist heresy. Saying his action was predestined, but by disease, and therefore not culpable, is agreeing with calvinism in essential anthropology (at least as applied on this issue), disagreeing only in moral judgement, exchanging it for a pseudomedical.
